Hi Ed and group,

Finally, after some twists and turns, my Softrock Ensemble RXII receiver is up and running. My god this thing is amazing!

This RX is so quiet and sensitive it blows me away. I can hear DX I wasn't even aware of using my two golden oldies; a Yaesu FRG-7700 RX and an Icom 701 RX/TX on the same antenna - a simple end-fed 80m long-wire.

The HDSDR interface took some getting used to, but I'm not sure if it will be the interface I'll finally settle on. Open to suggestions here :)

This RX was a good decision, and gives my audio/video PC something else to chew on. With thanks to Tony Parks and his team of helpers.

Hi all,

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's easy to zap these Softrock receivers simply by connecting an antenna to their antenna input socket. I could be way mistaken about this. Can anyone set me straight? If this is true, are there static-protection add-ons that eliminate this risk?

Thank you & 73

Hi all,

What would you recommend as a linear (are they still called "linears"?) amp that would take me to around 50 to 100w?

I'd be interested in a kitset but I'll look at anything suitable. I've just got my ham ticket reinstated, after some 40 years of inactivity, so I'm a bit out of touch :)

Thanks and 73

Though 12m-10m indicates Fair and Poor, my experience is that the chart is usually conservative about these ratings and there are many times some very good contacts to be made there.
This chart may be viewed at http://sdrbuzz.com/propagation.html as well as many other internet locations...
